Do I Need A Grief Mentor?

You recently suffered a loss, not knowing what to do, how to cope, how long will the pain last, will this pain ever go away,  what “stage” you're on… among these swirling thoughts, one question stands out: Do I need a grief mentor?

Grief is a journey not a destination. It’s a pain so deep that it's hard to find the right words to describe it.

So how do you know if you need a grief mentor?

The real question you should ask yourself is “Would you like to be heard, understood, validated and compassionately guided? Are you open to exploring and discovering what can be possible beyond this pain?

From my own experience, I’ve come to see grief as the final expression of love for someone who is no longer physically present. A description I use often is that grief is Love cloaked in pain. The pain as mentioned earlier is so unbearable it is impossible to find words that truly hold weight.

Grief can be:

  • Misunderstood: not only by those that surround us but also…ourselves

  • The travel  of Loneliness  & Isolation that begins filling our world

  • Giving every excuse to disconnect

  • The source of  despair and hopelessness

  • A pull for anxiety to take over

  • A cage where we feel stuck in our bodies, that can allow the unwanted flow of physical and emotional  dis-ease to enter

  • A strong and sometimes unbearable effect on our mind, body, and souls

We often see this path walked alone, leaving us to figure everything out with no guidance. This path that you are on…is NOT meant to be walked alone.

So I ask again…

“Would you like to be heard, understood, validated and compassionately guided? Are you open to the possibility of discovering what lies beyond this pain?

Believe it or not, embracing grief as an essential part of our human experience can bring lessons which can create  unexpected blessings. However, it requires a willingness to engage with all the challenging aspects of bereavement.

Do you need a mentor?

I’m not talking about just any mentor…but a mentor that deeply understands the depths of your pain through their own losses. A mentor who will hold hope for you until you can carry it yourself. A mentor who knows how to create a safe space for you to explore and discover what is building inside you, without judgment.

Through my personal experiences, I’ve discovered the uniquely profound impact of having a mentor- a mentor of compassion, who not only saw my pain but knew my pain, someone who I trusted to guide me along a path I thought I would have to walk alone.

Do not walk this path alone…
